Over the past few days, I have designed a couple of custom orders.
Drummer Birthday Card
The first one was a birthday card with the request that it included a drummer, a reference to them being 50 and a reference to a pacemaker as they have recently had one fitted. So after some discussion with the customer, it was decided that the image would be a picture of the recipient drumming along with a joke about them need to set their pacemaker to 50BPM.
I first started off by drawing the drum set by hand. After this, I scanned the image in and used this reference and a picture reference of the drummer to draw over this with my Wacom Tablet. Finally, I added colour and strokes to the digital image. I then created some matching confetti of 50’s and drum sticks.
Newcastle Football Sticker
The second custom order I had a request for was a Newcastle football laptop sticker. The customer sent me a couple of pics, one with the style they wanted the sticker in and the second one being a picture of what they wanted to be used as a reference.
So from this, I used photoshop to cut out the football player in the photograph and then the threshold filter to get a black and white silhouette effect. To neaten this up I then placed it into illustrator and used a high fidelity image trace, removing any odd parts and smoothening off some of the shapes.
Finally to make the sticker shape for my Silhouette Cameo to cut out I created a blocked image of it ready to trace. Then that meant I had a smooth outline ready for the image to be cut out.
This was the final result after being cut out –
So what do you think? Did I match the briefs well for each order?
As you can see these are 2 completely different styles! So if you’re looking for anything completely bespoke, just email me and I am sure I can help you get what you’re after! (email@example.com)
